What is topaz?

Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine. Naturally pale blue topaz is a light blue-green, while most commercially available blue topaz has been treated to turn it into the preferred bright, vibrant blue. Yellow topaz is often called the "champagne crystal".

History of topaz.

In the Middle Ages the name topaz was used to refer to any yellow gemstone, but now the name is only properly applied to this gemstone. The topaz has been known by humans for at least 2000 years; it's one of the gemstones that form the foundations of the twelve gates to the Holy City of the Jerusalem.

Reasons to buy topaz jewellery.

In ancient mysticism the topaz is associated with a cooling and appetising effect. It is said to dispel sadness, anger and fears of the night, to protect it's wearer from sudden death and poisoning. It is reputed to make men handsome and intelligent and sterile women fertile and happy!
